4 Skills To Teach Your Kids This Summer

Summer is well and truly here and before you know it, the kids will be breaking up for school. Although you may have lots of fun and exciting activities already planned for their days in the sun, it’s important you’re thinking about the ways in which they can continue to learn. Whilst you don’t want to create a school-like environment, you do want to make sure you’re thinking about the ways in which your activities could help them learn new skills. With that in mind, here are 4 skills to teach your kids this summer:

Teach Them How To Read And Write

Although your child will be learning to read and write whilst they’re at school, there’s nothing to say you can’t reinforce what they’re learning whilst they’re at home during the summer. If your child is at a young age, you may even need to continue assisting them to ensure they don’t forget what they have learnt. Whilst you don’t want them to feel as though they’re in school still, you do want to show them the significance of practising what they have learnt over the last year. Teach Them A New Physical Skill

Another great thing to teach your children over the summer vacation is a physical skill. Whether this means you teach them a new sport or you encourage them to start an activity like swimming, you want your child to understand the importance of living an active lifestyle. Teach Them How To Explore Their Creativity

When it comes to creativity, you want to be sure you are teaching your children to be as creative as they can be. Although they will have a chance to be creative at school, they may find that at times their creativity is limited by the curriculum.

If you are worried they’re not having enough time to let their creative flair show during school time, you may want to give them everything they need to create during the summer. Whether that means providing them with lots of different colours of paint, buying them a musical instrument or taking them to drama school - art comes in many different forms.

Teach Them How To Have Confidence And Self-Worth

Finally, you may want to consider taking the time to teach your children confidence and self-worth. Although most children appear to be born with incredible confidence, as the years go on this could start to diminish if you don’t show them that they are worthy and they deserve all of the good things that they get. It’s an important lesson to learn and is even better coming from their parents, rather than their school.
