Century Tuna’s “Saving Our Seas” Movement Unites Over 8,000 Volunteers Nationwide for Cleaner Oceans

Century Tuna, the Philippines’ No. 1 tuna brand, is proving that caring for the sea goes beyond what’s inside the can. Now on its third year, the brand’s award-winning “Saving Our Seas” campaign is stronger than ever—uniting Filipinos nationwide to protect our oceans and marine life.

This 2025, the movement reached a new milestone as it expanded to six major cleanup sites—Manila, Batangas, Subic, Davao, Zamboanga, and General Santos City. What began as a small coastal cleanup in Batangas in 2023 has now grown into a nationwide environmental effort with over 8,200 volunteers joining forces to make a real difference.

A Record-Breaking Cleanup

In celebration of International Coastal Cleanup Day, representatives from Century Pacific Food Inc. (CPFI), HOPE, local government units, diver groups, the Philippine Marine Corps, Century Tuna Superbods, and partner brands gathered for a day dedicated to cleaning and caring for the sea.

Their combined efforts led to the collection of 1,386 kilograms of plastic waste—almost four times more than the previous year’s total. Volunteers came from all walks of life, showing how community spirit can drive environmental change.

Turning Plastic Waste Into Livelihood Opportunities

“Our product comes from the sea, and without healthy oceans, we have nothing,” shared Mr. Carlo Endaya, CPFI’s Vice President and General Manager for the Branded Tuna Division.

He explained that “Saving Our Seas” isn’t just about cleaning up—it’s about creating a sustainable system of care through partnerships like HOPE’s Aling Tindera waste-to-cash program.

This program gives local women entrepreneurs the opportunity to earn from collecting and trading plastic waste, while keeping it out of the ocean. “Every piece of plastic collected is one less danger to marine life,” Endaya added.

Stronger Together: Partnerships that Power Change

Century Tuna’s initiative thrived through the help of many partners, including the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Public Services of the City of Manila, and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).

Brands like Shakey’s, Vita Coco, Beach Hut, and Peri-Peri also joined the movement, proving that collaboration is key in addressing environmental challenges.

Ms. Caroline Beloso, Field Coordinator of Friends of HOPE Inc. in Batangas, expressed her gratitude: “Century Tuna has been one of our biggest supporters. Their help goes beyond environmental efforts—it reaches communities that depend on the sea for their livelihood. That’s the kind of impact that truly matters.”

Building a Future That’s Ocean-Friendly

In just three years, Saving Our Seas has collected over 100 metric tons of plastic waste, expanding from one site to six and inspiring thousands of volunteers across the country.

Mr. Ray Guinoo, Assistant Vice President and Marketing Director for Local Tuna Operations at CPFI, shared, “More than just cleaning up, we’re building a community that cares. Every volunteer, every partner, and every small act of kindness adds up. Together, we can create a future where both people and the planet thrive.”

As moms, we know how important it is to teach our kids to love and respect nature. Whether it’s picking up trash after a beach trip or saying no to single-use plastics, every effort counts. Campaigns like Century Tuna’s Saving Our Seas remind us that when communities unite, small actions can ripple into lasting change.
