Survey shows dishwashing bar solution is the dirtiest household item

Nothing scares you most than germs invading your home. So you see to it that the house is clean and sanitized to prevent sickness within the family. But are you sure everything's clean and germ-free? Nay, gising!

Guess what? The Philippine Society for Microbiology (PSM) confirms that the dishwashing bar solution has up to 10x level of contaminants than a dirty sock and other dirty household items.

Nay Gising!

The table below shows the readings from the luminometers used by the PSE to measure the level of contaminants in each household item. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the universal energy molecule found in animal, plant, bacterial, yeast, and mold cells. It emits light when it comes into contact with the Luciferase/Luciferin reagent of the luminometer. TThe light emited is then measured and expressed as Relative Light Units. As you can see, the bar solution contains the highest level of RLU which also means that it has the highest level of adenosine triphosphate.

To illustrate how they did the study, immediate former president of the PSM, Dr. Jessica Simbahan, swabbed the leather cover of my Galaxy Tab to measure the level of contaminants present on its surface. My goodness, the result was 1,813 RLU which is between the levels found in the living room floor and trash bin cover!

This is what Joy Brand Manager, Ms. Jan Ang, wants Pinay moms to realize. The things that we normally use may not be as clean as we think. We have to be all the more vigilant in preventing the spread of germs especially during food preparation and cleaning of kitchen utensils. PSM's current president, Dr. Supachai Basit, even told of a study made in Japan that found several types of bacteria such as the E. coli and Staph. aureus, present in dishwashing sponge.

You know, Rap contracted E. coli after we were hit by Ondoy in 2009 and it wasn't a pretty experience.  He vomited and pooped like there's no tomorrow.  He got dehydrated and I don't want that to happen again.  Thus, for me it's better to start cleaning with Joy Antibac with Power of Safeguard.  It's the only dishwashing liquid accepted by the Philippine Society of Microbiology because it provides up to 99% germ protection.

Now that we know what the dirtiest household item is, it's now time to reveal the winner of the mini-survey I held in my Facebook page and my Twitter account. Who is the lucky reader who answered the survey correctly? See below:

Congratulations, Shiela Francisco Almoneda! Please send your complete address and mobile number to mail@the24hourmommy.com so I can endorse the shipping of your prize.  By the way, you win Php 1,000 worth of Joy Antibac with Power of Safeguard and other P&G products!
