Being Green Starts at Home

If there is one thing that is at the top of things that matter in the modern world, finding a way to get our planet back on track is probably top of the list. It seems that there is so much that needs to be done when it comes to our planet, and if we don’t start soon, it may be too late.

Over the past 100 years, we have sometimes unwillingly caused an unbelievable amount of damage to planet earth, and as each passing day goes by, it seems that the damage is having a domino effect that many of us did not expect.

In this post, we are going to be taking a look at some of the damage that’s been done, and then we are going to take a look at some of the things we can do at home that will really make a difference.

While you may not think that you alone can make a difference, you really can. Yes, you may only be one person, but you are one person that can pass the message on to another, and hopefully, it will filter through others, and eventually, there will be millions of us making changes for the better.

Why We Need To Pull Together

Over the past ten years, there have been warnings galore from sources all over the world, and unfortunately, there were many people out there that insisted it was nothing more than fear-mongering.

As we are sure you can see, the last few years have shown in so many ways that the warnings were far from fear-mongering, and now the planet is suffering in many ways. We have now reached a point where the Antarctic sees temperatures higher than it ever has before, and we are experiencing freak weather and many natural disasters all over the world.

In certain parts of the world, there are emission levels that are so high, just walking down a street is equivalent to smoking three cigarettes every five minutes you spend exposed.

It has never been more important for us all to come together and start to make some changes when it comes to the way we live our lives. While some people out there still claim that it’s all for governmental profit, our counter-argument is simply this; if this is the case, why is living a greener and more eco-friendly life far cheaper, and why are governments all over the world offering us the changes for free?

So, let’s take a look around the house together and start to look at some of the things we can change that will make our planet an amazing place to live for us, our children and our children’s children.

Reduce Your Waste

If there is one thing that is causing a massive problem today, it’s the amount of waste we are producing, or, more specifically, the amount of food waste we produce. While this is something that people often shun, you may be surprised by the effect it has on the planet.

The first thing we should say is that most households are wasting around 30% of the food they buy every month. So effectively, you are throwing your money away. Now, if we look closely at how this is affecting the environment, the situation is worse than you may think.

Because so much is being thrown in the trash, more needs to be produced; when more is produced, it requires more transport, labor, and man-power. Adding all of these things together and seeing what we are throwing away, we are abusing our planet by around 40% more than is needed, and this is only on food production.

If you are looking for a solution to save yourself food, money and also help save the planet, it’s time to start shopping more carefully. Before you head out of the house, check your fridge and freezer to see what food you have that can be incorporated into meals.

If you can, build a weekly food and meal planner around these items and other items you may need. Once you are armed with this, create a list and make sure you shop to this list. When you shop to the list, you will find that you are not buying unnecessary items that you will end up throwing in the trash when you do not eat them.

You should also look at pre-cooking meals and freezing them in portions in your freezer. By doing this, you will be reducing your waste to zero, and you will also have meals ready for you at the end of a busy day.

This is one of the most basic things you can do when it comes to being eco-friendly, so why not give it a try? After all, it won’t just save the planet, as we mentioned earlier, it could save you enough over a year to send you on a small day trip with the family.

Recycle

The final thing we are going to talk about is yet again a simple one, and of course, that is recycling. When it comes to recycling, you don’t need to be told much, all you need to know is what you can and cannot recycle and why doing it will really help so much.

By ensuring you are recycling, you will be helping keep plastics out of landfills, and you will be reducing production emissions at rates that would shock you.

While many people are recycling, it may shock you to find out that many people aren’t doing it properly. If you want to know how to recycle properly, there are many guides online, and with a little research, you can be on your way to saving the planet in no time.

While both of these things are incredibly simple, you should also remember that they will cost you nothing, and one will even save you money. So when it comes to saving the planet, what are you waiting for?
