They say that Filipinos are very particular when it comes to personal hygiene and cleanliness. In fact, we make it a point to clean our homes every day. In my house, for example, it's not enough to just sweep the floor with a broom. The floor should be mopped with a cleaning solution as well.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Traditional Mops

When I attended the inauguration of the ELS Clean Tech Corporation and Electrolux Warehouse last week, I discovered that this cleaning method may not be as hygienic as I thought it would be.

Of course, it's less expensive and easy to use BUT it has many disadvantages:

• Poor ergonomics
• Environmental hazard because of cleaning solutions
• Poor cleaning result
• Difficult to clean mop head
• Spreads dirt around

Now, I think this is somehow manageable because I'm just cleaning a small home but can you imagine how it is when large establishments use a traditional mop? Can you imagine these traditional mops being used in large hospitals? My goodness, I was shocked to discover how it can easily contaminate a patient's room with germ from another patient's room! Isn't it scary?

The concept of bringing in the market a cleaning tool that can pass the stringent requirement of sanitized and sterilized environment has been developed since the 90's. However, it couldn't take off successfully because of the high cost to manufacture and maintain high-end microfiber mops.
