Mommy Moments: That's My Favorite

mommy moments

It's not the telescope nor the stuffed crocodile in front of him. My son may look like a big boy now but he can never sleep without his Elmo. He had that pillow ever since he was two years old. He takes Elmo wherever he sleeps, be it in our bedroom or during our out of town trips. That's how special Elmo is to him.

What's your child's favorite? Share it with us on Mommy Moments.

How We Made a Kab Scout Flag from Scratch

Ralph was "assigned" to produce a flag for their kawan(platoon) since he is their kawan lider. Actually, it was more of a group project but I'm guessing that my son, once again, volunteered to take over the task. I love doing arts and crafts project but I wasn't so much prepared for this one! Good thing that my husband was so interested in producing the flag and that he was on leave for a few days that I got the help I needed.

So here's how we made it...

First, we had to google for a tamaraw image. We found one that was fit to be a flag insignia but it looked more like a carabao than a tamaraw with its horns pointing sidewards. I had to do some tricks with Photoshop to make the horns point slightly upward. Here's how it looked like after the Photoshop task:

I stretched the image to fit a letter-sized bond paper and printed it. While my husband carved a plastic folder using this image to produce a stencil, I went ahead and sewed the hems of the flag.

Once the stencil and the flag were ready, we positioned them on the table for the paint spraying part. Since the plastic folder is smaller than the flag, we had to cover the edges with old magazine pages. We used blue Pylox spray paint for imprinting our insignia.

Here's my Kab Scout in full gear with their new kawan flag. By the way, that flag pole was from our paint roller pole. I had to ask the houseboy to cut the pole just a little higher than Ralph. The blue pole turned out perfect for our blue and white flag.

So, what's your verdict? Did we do a good job or not?

Mommy Moments: Treasured Pictures

mommy moments

I was once a mom to twenty kids aside from my precious child. Up to now, these photos give me mixed emotions. I say their names aloud when I look at these photos because I don't want to forget their names. Hope they haven't forgotten about me, too. It was a hard decision to leave teaching. I had to resign because we we're relocated back to Manila after my husband got a new job. These photos are just among many others (including photos of their artworks) that I took during our activities. I'm glad I kept them all these years. I miss my kids! I miss being Teacher Mommy.

Mommy Bloggers and Kids' Play Date at ActiveFun SM North EDSA

Thanks to Cookie for this shot!

Yesterday, Ralph and I had the chance to be part of a fun play date with my fellow mommy bloggers and their kids. Although the weather did not cooperate that much, the timing of the play date was perfect. It was Ralph's last day of exams and playing in ActiveFun was a great way for him to relax.

We braved the rains yesterday and rode the MRT to SM North EDSA. It felt exciting riding the train again with Rap. I think it's good for him to experience commuting once in a while to make him street smart. I guess he has learned a lot during the trip and our uber long walk from the North EDSA station to SM North but that would be for another post.

Our kids were allowed to enjoy the play place for two hours. The mommies with smaller kids were also able to play inside the play area with their kids. Even if I am allowed to be there, I guess, Ralph won't still allow me to come and play. This boy of mine is trying hard to project that he's already big. The funny thing was, when a kid pushed the tower of blocks that he made, he ran to me crying and making sumbong. I gave him the look and he just wailed louder! Haha!

ActiveFun takes pride in having the longest indoor slides in the Philippines. Aside from the slides, the kids can run around the play area and engage in various activities. Ralph kept himself busy playing basketball and building his tower of sponge blocks. There's also the trampoline and the pool of plastic balls that's always a hit with the kids.

Basketball shot courtesy of Cookie.

The play place is also the best place to celebrate your parties. They have packages available for a party of 10 to 40 kids. All packages include exclusive use of the party venue for 3 hours, invitations, nametags, loot bags, kiddie meals, ActiveFun cake, ActiveFun Banner, ice cream, and unlimited play. The bigger packages include more freebies. Parties can be held daily at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

ActiveFun SM North EDSA can be found at the 3rd Floor of the SM North Annex. For inquiries and reservations, you can call 215-9891 or 556-1223 or you can visit their site.
